moving – brain food

moving – brain food

Why is moving so good for the brain?

Because muscles and the brain are directly connected. Those who move their muscles also train their gray cells and promote mental fitness better than solving crossword puzzles while sitting. With every moving session, you not only activate your body, but also your gray cells.

Do you need a change of pace? No problem – just do something you feel like doing – dance to music for a short time, stroll slowly through shops, occasionally rotate your shoulders (great for loosening tension) – you’re sure to think of something 😊.

Have fun with moving, Roswitha Ram-Devrient & the moving team.

Why moving

Why moving

Why moving?

Thats what people say, who have been doing moving for many years:

  • because I feel more relaxed
  • because I feel better afterwards
  • because I no longer have back pain
  • because I have become more flexible
  • because… would you like to hear medical facts? Sure, that works just as well
  • because moving supplies the intervertebral discs with nutrient fluid
  • because moving stretches and activates the fasciae
  • because moving strengthens the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of the autonomic nervous system responsible for the resting state
  • because moving intensifies breathing
  • because moving improves blood circulation
  • because moving reduces high blood pressure
  • because ….

But maybe you would like to say something – text us via www.moving.de/kontaktso that the list gets even longer 🙂

Focus on continuous stress

Focus on continuous stress

Why does muscle tension increase with age (without you noticing) and why do you therefore urgently need to move?

Can you remember how you felt as a child? Bouncing around easily, chasing after a ball, jumping rope with ease? You can still do things like that (more or less) even when you’re older!

Don’t let anyone tell you that getting older makes us stiff and immobile. No, it’s caused by daily increases in muscle tension. Where does this come from? The culprit is our fight/flight behaviour from primitive times, which prepares the organism for tension by releasing adrenaline whenever it is challenged. This made a lot of sense in the wild, but is pretty pointless for most everyday challenges.
You want to know how you can prevent muscle tension from increasing year after year? It’s simple: you reduce muscle tension in a targeted manner again and again – with movement.

Roswitha Ram-Devrient and the moving team wish you lots of fun with moving.

balance-button

balance-button

Why is moving so effective at reducing stress and promoting relaxation?

Because moving incorporates a variety of functional elements that help the body transition from activity to relaxation.

Functional Element 1: Slow Movement
How it works: By moving slowly and gently, you send a signal to your amygdala (the stress center) that says, ‘All clear, no danger.’ This helps your body shift into a state of calm and relaxation.

Functional element 2: conscious attention and releasing weight
This works very subtly and, by the way, has been practiced for a few thousand years – so it is well-tested :). You focus your attention on the contact of your soles with the ground and let the weight of your legs (when sitting) or your whole body (when standing or lying) sink down loosely.

You can use moving simply as a balance button to (with some practice) instantly achieve calm at any time.

Focus on small back muscles

Why is moving essential for those who sit for long periods?

Because this causes the small back muscles to become problematic. How does this happen? The small back muscles love sitting because then they can laze around. In fact, these small muscles are extremely hardworking and a marvel of endurance—they can handle hours of walking or standing with ease. But, as in real life, long periods of inactivity are bad for their condition. The longer the small back muscles remain inactive while comfortably leaning in a seated position, the more strength they lose, so that in the long term even the large back muscles have to support the small muscles in keeping the spine upright. Since these large muscles are not designed for prolonged strain, they stiffen and cause pain.

How can you train the small back muscles? Quite simple – stand up and do moving, because when standing, during slow, relaxed movement – that is, during moving, walking, and all balance exercises – the small muscles are active.
